At 215m, the Zalmhavenentoren in Rotterdam’s Scheepskwartier is the tallest residential tower in the Netherlands. At the top of the residential tower, Sabien and her family enjoy living there. They used the floor as a starting point when choosing their furnishings. Important were the sleek and hard-wearing features. In this blog they motivate the choices for their floor and interior.
Views as inspiration
Rotterdam is known for its modern architecture. In recent decades, several tall skyscrapers have risen along the river Maas. “From the apartment we have an unobstructed view of a large part of the city. With good weather, even The Hague and Delft are visible.” Sabien says enthusiastically. “My aunt is an interior designer and gave us the advice to choose whether you wanted to be ‘with the earth’ or ‘with the sky’ when decorating and coloring the apartment. It became the sky. So we chose a cast floor in a gray-blue hue. We also kept the rest of the furnishings in the atmosphere of the sky.”
The floor and interior
The apartment looks spacious due to the large windows that extend from the floor to the ceiling. The chosen EPI PU cast floor enhances this optical feeling through its gray-blue color and the seamless nature of the flooring solution.
The furniture in the living room has an industrial look and is done in metal with dark, modern color accents. These colors form a nice contrast to the color of the cast floor and give balance to the furnishings. In the study, brighter colors, such as shades of yellow, have been used to emphasize the difference from the living space. This clearly creates a separation between living and working.
Easy in maintenance
“We are very happy with the EPI floor. The maintenance is simple. Just mop it and it’s clean again. We do get a lot of construction dust inside because the building is new, but otherwise little dirt from the street.
