Recently, Stijn and Fleur moved to Haarsteeg, near Den Bosch. “The search for a new home was difficult,” Stijn explains. “We couldn’t find a house anywhere that was completely to our taste. In the end we bought a plot and since I am an architect myself, I designed our new home myself.”
EPI Superbase
They didn’t have to think long about the type of floor. “We also had a cast floor in our previous home,” agrees Stijn. “We liked that so much that we approached the same applicator again. He advised us to choose an EPI Superbase cast floor, because he is very comfortable working with it. He gave us several color samples so we could determine which color would fit best. You can’t do much with colors on a website or from a book. The only way you can really see how a color turns out is to look at a sample at the location itself. Only then will you know how the light falls on it and how the color relates to the rest of your interior.”
Determine the composition of the blend yourself
Stijn and Fleur chose a blush color in the living room, Grey Light. “Our previous floor had a uni color,” Stijn explains. “We chose that one when there were just two of us. Now we have three kids and a blend is a bit more practical. The nice thing about a blend floor is that the applicator comes and mixes it on the spot. So you can determine the intensity of the “sweep” yourself. By the way, this floor is also a shade lighter than the previous one. We have a very light house and this floor matches that perfectly.”
Beautiful aesthetic combination
The upstairs does have a uni color. “We hesitated about whether to have the floor applied in the shower as well,” Stijn says. “It could have been done, because a cast floor doesn’t have to be slippery, but from a design perspective we opted to put a different floor in the shower. That exception makes for a very nice aesthetic combination and shows off the sleek cast floor nicely.”
