Five myths about cast floors
When choosing a new floor, the options seem endless, from wood to tile to carpet to a cast floor. Making the right choice is a time-consuming job that requires a lot of research. Are you considering a cast floor? We list five myths about cast flooring to help you make the best choice.
Myth 1 - Cast floors crack quickly.
It is often thought that cast floors crack quickly and therefore are not suitable as flooring. However, the EPI Superbase cast floor AC+ is equipped with a flexible and comfortable intermediate layer to prevent cracking up to 2.5 millimeters. As a result, the floor is wear-resistant and lasts an average of 30 years, making the cast floor a sustainable investment. This crack-free cast floor offers a 99 percent certainty of accommodating cracks, making this type of floor very suitable for new construction homes.
Myth 2 - Cast floors look chilly
A home or work building likes to be decorated in an attractive and inviting way. This can be done using furniture and accessories, but the floor also plays an important role in the interior. Did you know that cast floors are available in many different colors and patterns? With the EPI Colour Collection, it is possible to choose a ‘Solid color’ consisting of one uni color for a sleek look, or a ‘Blend color’ which is a mix of two colors for a natural atmosphere.
Myth 3 - Cast floors are not suitable for pets
With pets, it’s nice if the floor is easy to clean and can take a beating. A cast floor offers that perfect combination, as this type of floor is both practical and hygienic. For example, it is completely seamless, waterproof and has high scratch resistance. In addition, a cast floor is easy to clean, as stains from wet dog paws or cat hair can be simply removed with a mop or damp cloth.
Myth 4 - Cast floors are not resistant to damp areas
In addition to living rooms, bedrooms and offices, cast flooring is also great for kitchens and bathrooms. Because cast flooring is applied in liquid form, it is completely waterproof and completely seamless, so no moisture or dirt can get into a seam. This makes a cast floor easy to maintain. And another added benefit: with a cast floor, the room appears larger. Read our article on a cast floor in the bathroom.
Myth 5 - Cast floors cannot be combined with underfloor heating.
Because a cast floor is quite thin (3-4 mm), heat is transferred quickly and the home or work building is up to temperature quickly, saving energy. With underfloor heating, heat is created from below and evenly distributed with a cast floor. Even when the underfloor heating is off, the cast floor does a useful and sustainable job of absorbing ambient heat. This provides nice warm feet in winter and a cooling effect in summer. In combination with underfloor heating, a cast floor is therefore very comfortable and sustainable! Read more about underfloor heating and cast floors here.
