UNESCO World Heritage site Royal Botanic Gardens KEW in London has a botanical collection with more than 50,000 living plants. The magnificent scientific collection includes plants from tropical, temperate, arid and alpine climates. Guests can explore the world of science and visit different types of gardens. From Japanese landscapes to Mediterranean gardens.
In November ’21, the Family Kitchen & Shop restaurant opened. Kew Gardens asked Mizzo Studio to come up with the interior design. They drew inspiration from Sjakie and the Chocolate Factory and the gardens of KEW for their unusual design. The EPI Superbase floor was installed by We Think Resin.
Sjakie and the Chocolate Factory
The imaginative restaurant has a color palette of bright pinks, the browns of mushrooms and leafy greens, chosen to reflect nature’s plants and food. The interior is “a magical world,” says Jonathan Mizzi, director of Mizzi Studio.
“We designed a magical world of gardens, forests and woods where people seem to be reduced to the size of tiny creatures living with nature, in what is best described as a mix of Sjakie and the Chocolate Factory and a botanical science laboratory,” he said.
We Think Resin chose the EPI Superbase to create the colorful cast floor. The design of the interior and floor is based on plants from botanical gardens. The floor has organic lines and bright colors to indicate the different seating areas and walkways. The interior and floor are the same color and the large windows make it feel like you are part of the gardens.
