Plenty of choice

When choosing flooring in the home these days, there are plenty of choices. There are also several factors that come into play when choosing a floor, such as the type, price tag and quality of the floor. Nevertheless, our research* has shown that two-thirds (63%) of Dutch people have no trouble choosing a new floor. However, women (41%) do find it more difficult to make a choice than men (33%).

*Research conducted in partnership with Multiscope among 1,005 respondents, July 2019.

Key factors in choosing flooring in the home

A floor helps determine the atmosphere in the home and is a very personal choice. The type of floor (wood, PVC, laminate, cast floor, tiles) is therefore the most important factor for 62 percent of Dutch people when buying a floor, followed by price (57%). This is the case for both men and women. Remarkably, men indicated quality as the third most important factor and women indicated the color of the floor. Below is an overview of the top eight most important factors when buying a floor:

Fifth considers screed in home

It turns out that 18 percent of Dutch people are considering a cast floor if they are going to purchase another floor in their home. However, there are sometimes doubts that this type of floor makes the interior chilly (39%), is too expensive (36%) and is easily scratched or streaked (19%).

However, the doubts about cast flooring are unnecessary. For example, EPI offers a wide range of warm colors in various color combinations and Superbase cast flooring is crack resistant and has high scratch resistance. In addition, plastic cast floors are seamless, easy to keep clean and a perfect solution in combination with underfloor heating.

Practical flooring more important than a stylish one

It is striking that slightly more women (64%) than men (60%) say they consider a practical floor more important than a stylish one. The cliché of the thrifty Dutchman also turns out to be true: on average, a floor is used for longer than seven years. Sander Egels, director of EPI, explains, “This is a positive result for the environment. Sustainability is also a high priority for us, which is why our cast floors last about 30 years.”
Finally, almost all Dutch people (91%) say they prefer to buy their floor in a store rather than online “We also see among our customers that they like to visit our showroom. This way they get a good idea of the material and quality of the cast floor. In addition, when visiting a showroom, customers can also receive tailored advice directly, in line with their personal interior design wishes,” says Egels.
