R&D at EPI<\/strong><\/h4>

At EPI, a cast floor is about much more than just the end result. Behind every floor is a thoughtful process of research, testing, improving and checking. This is precisely where EPI makes a difference. With its own R&D lab<\/a>, own production and 35+ years of practical knowledge, EPI has a grip on the entire chain: from raw material to finished floor system. The R&D and Design<\/a> lab as the beating heart of EPI<\/strong><\/h4>

Within EPI, the R&D lab, with a team of five colleagues, has an important role. This is where new products are created, existing systems are improved, new (sustainable) raw materials are researched, and extensive quality control takes place. Color development and assessment of raw materials are also part of the lab. Even before a product reaches the market, we know exactly how it behaves under different conditions. Why does the EPI R&D and Design Lab make a difference?<\/strong><\/h4>

An important advantage of an in-house R&D environment is speed. We are an organization with short lines of communication and a lot of practical knowledge. This allows us to react quickly when the market changes or when customers have specific requirements or design wishes. New raw materials, modified product compositions or improvements in processing can therefore be researched more quickly and translated into concrete solutions. <\/p>

In addition, EPI does not only work with separate products, but rather from complete systems: from primer to top coat. In practice, we often see products from different manufacturers being combined, whereas EPI opts for complete casting floor systems whose entire structure is geared to each other and has been extensively tested. This ensures that the EPI systems adhere well to each other and meet our requirements. Quality control from raw material to finished product<\/strong><\/h4>

Quality starts at EPI even before production. Incoming raw materials are checked for properties such as moisture content, contamination and active ingredient. Then the batches produced are also tested again, for example for flow, color, hardness and mechanical properties. Only when all these checks are in order do products go out the door and are delivered to our customers. <\/p>

But it doesn’t stop there. EPI keeps samples of both raw materials and finished products so that they can always be looked back on in case of questions, color matching or any complaints. It is precisely this careful quality assurance that ensures that customers can count on a controlled and reliable product. <\/p>

Sustainability doesn’t just start with the end product<\/strong><\/h4>

Within EPI, the lab also plays an important role in making our cast flooring systems more sustainable. This starts with the choice of raw materials. EPI works with as many European suppliers as possible, limiting transport distances and reducing emissions in the chain. These choices are relevant in the context of lifecycle analyses and EPD reports<\/a>, which include the total environmental impact of the entire EPI system. <\/p>

Sustainability is not only about origin and method of production, but precisely also about the actual lifespan of the EPI cast floor system. In practice, a floor that lasts for decades and can be renewed with a new finish in the interim is often more durable than a floor that must be completely replaced after 15 to 20 years. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Innovation from the market and from practice<\/strong><\/h4>

Product development at EPI usually starts with a concrete question. Sometimes it comes from the market, sometimes from a partner, applicator or internally. From this question a package of requirements is drawn up: what performance must a system meet, what appearance is desired and what standards play a role? Then the R&D lab starts working with raw materials, test setups and test applications. <\/p>

New systems are not only assessed in the lab, but also tested in practice. These include processing in different layer thicknesses, adhesion to various substrates and the behavior of top coats in combination with primers or infill systems. Where necessary, EPI has additional tests performed by external institutes, for example in the areas of fire safety<\/a>, noise or sports performance<\/a>. Thus, a product is only released when it has been technically and practically proven and the quality is guaranteed. <\/p>

Trends: faster systems and more sustainable solutions<\/strong><\/h4>

In the marketplace, we at EPI see a number of clear trends. Demand is increasingly shifting toward more durable systems, more efficient processing and more design freedom. Labor is becoming more expensive, schedules are tighter and the need for flooring systems that can be applied or overlaid faster is increasing.
